Around 12:30 pm, the enormous fire that engulfed the Bangabazar Shopping Complex this morning in the famous garment market of the capital was put out. The fire completely destroyed the market, which raged for more than six hours.
The fire was put out at 12:36 pm, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defense duty officer. At about 6:10 in the morning, the fire started.
The entire shopping center was reduced to ashes. There is nothing left of the market, said witnesses.
A mob attacked the Fire Service and Civil Defense Headquarters, inflicting at least four injuries on the firefighters. Two people were taken by ambulance to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital. In response to the delay in putting out the fire, a mob assaulted them, according to fire officials.
The Bangabazar Shopping Complex’s fire quickly spread to surrounding markets. The office secretary for the Bangabazar Shopping Complex Shop Owners Association, BM Habib, stated that “at least six markets” had been affected by the fire.
The adjoining Annex Tower and Islamia Market were also reportedly affected by the fire, according to witnesses.
