Aleya, a leader in the Hijra community from Uttara, presented a donation of Tk 2 lakh to the traders of the Bangabazar Shopping Complex, which was reduced to ashes in a major fire last week.
“I set aside money to perform the Hajj. However, I handed it to the traders so they might recover,” Aleya spoke with reporters.
“Watching this market burn down was heartbreaking. Once, we collected Tk 10 to 20 from these traders in the markets. They have everything lost now. This is, therefore, my small contribution,” explained Aleya.
The Hijra leader urged everyone to stand beside the traders during their most difficult time. The traders accepted the gift and thanked Aleya for her generosity.
