Bangladesh and Oman have agreed to a new agreement under which Bangladesh will get 1.5 MTPA more liquefied natural gas (LNG) starting in 2026 for the following ten years.
Five more years can be added to the contract. At a ceremony held at the Hotel Shonargaon today, state-owned Petrobangla of Bangladesh inked a new contract with OQ Trading of Oman.
Bangladesh has been importing 1-1.5 MTPA of LNG as per an existing agreement since 2019.
Said Al Maawali, executive director of OQT, and Ruchira Islam, secretary of Petrobabangla, each signed the deal on behalf of their respective organizations.
According to a news statement from the Ministry of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, Tawfiq E. Elahi, the Prime Minister’s advisor on energy and power, and the Omani ambassador in Dhaka were present at the contract signing ceremony.
Additionally, present were Petrobangla Chairman Zanendra Nath Sarker and Energy Secretary Dr. Khairuzzaman Majumder.
