Because of their more developed healthcare systems, Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H. Mansur claims that Bangladeshis spend more than $5 billion a year on medical care abroad, with India and Thailand being the top destinations.
The World Bank and the Policy Research Institute of Bangladesh organized the workshop “Cross-Border Data Flow: A Bangladesh Perspective,” where Mansur made these remarks. The Amari Dhaka in the capital was the venue for the event.
The governor underlined that a significant portion of this spending occurs informally, which is placing a significant strain on the nation’s balance of payments.
In order to solve this problem, he advocated for the creation of a legal framework for data processing that would facilitate effective data exchange both domestically and internationally.
