To boost agricultural productivity, commercial banks in the nation authorized Tk35,000 crore in loans to farmers during the current fiscal year 2023–2024.
This is 13.60% higher than the previous year’s target of Tk30,811 crore. State-owned commercial and specialized banks have set a target of Tk12,030 crore, private banks Tk21,923 crore, and foreign commercial banks Tk1,047 crore.
In the last fiscal year, banks disbursed Tk32,830 crore in agricultural and rural loans, 106.55% of the total target.
Bangladesh Samabaya Bank Limited and Bangladesh Rural Development Board have set targets of Tk26 crore and Tk1,423 crore from their own financing, respectively.
Loans will be disbursed to new farmers on a priority basis, with a maximum limit for income-generating activities in rural areas of Tk5 lakh.
