Recently appointed director general of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, stated that the situation at the border is under control.
He added that the 65 Rohingya individuals who were attempting to enter Bangladesh had been detained and that the BGB was attempting to force them to return to Myanmar. Under no circumstances will any Rohingya be permitted to enter the country.
Speaking to reporters on Tuesday afternoon, Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui had just finished paying respects at the tomb of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the country’s founding father.
“We are attempting to approach the matter humanely by remaining patient and upholding positive relations with other countries. 264 members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police have turned themselves in, including 115 on Monday night, 114 this morning, and 35 in the afternoon. We have given them food and shelter. Out of them, eight are in critical condition and fifteen were injured, four of them were admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital and four to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital,” He stated.
About the two fatalities caused by cross-border mortar rounds, the newly appointed director general of the BGB stated, “Sadly, a woman from Bangladesh and a Rohingya person perished. There is no reason for those deaths.
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s grave was attended by Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, who arrived in Tungipara earlier in the afternoon and laid a wreath there.
In addition, he participated in a unique prayer for Bangabandhu’s soul and the souls of his family members who were martyred.
Senior officers from the BGB were also there.
