Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina emphasized the importance of the BRICS as a platform for global peace, justice, and stability, urging the country to become an inclusive platform.
She called for channeling resources from the arms race to global public goods and taking responsibility for peace, justice, and stability.
Bangladesh, the world’s 35th largest economy, has made significant progress in sustainable development, with a focus on reducing poverty rates, providing electricity to all households, and eliminating homelessness through free social housing projects, she opined.
The country has also introduced the Universal Pension Scheme for 100 million people and aims to build a ‘Smart Bangladesh’ by 2041, she also said.
Hasina emphasized the need for predictable financing to support investments in infrastructure, industries, and clean energy while waiting for reforms in the international financial architecture.
