The Public Service Commission (PSC) has postponed the viva voce (oral tests) of the 44th Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) examinations for candidates who are also set to appear for the 46th BCS written test.
The commission stated that the oral examinations would be rescheduled for a “convenient time.”
Masuma Afrin, Controller of Examinations (Cadre) at PSC, told bdnews24.com on Thursday afternoon, “Candidates scheduled for both the 46th BCS written exam and the 44th BCS viva can apply for a deferment. Their oral tests will be postponed and held at a suitable time later.”
The Press Information Department also reiterated this decision in an earlier message.
For the past few days, a group of candidates has been demonstrating outside the PSC office, demanding that the 46th BCS written examination be conducted only after the completion of the 44th BCS oral tests.
However, from Thursday afternoon, authorities prevented protesters from gathering outside the commission.
Mostaqin Ashiq, a candidate for the 44th, 45th, and 46th BCS, who represented the demonstrators, told bdnews24.com, “No one is being allowed to stand outside the PSC. Police and army personnel removed us. Even journalists were not permitted to stay near the commission building. We are now outside the Election Commission.”
Earlier, on Tuesday, a group of protesters had “stormed the entrance” of the PSC, demanding that the 46th BCS written exam be scheduled after the 44th BCS viva.
In response, the commission warned on Wednesday that legal action would be taken against those attempting to enter the PSC premises in a disorderly manner.
