For the benefit of Bangladesh’s foreign employees, the interim government has established a unique lounge known as the “Probashi Lounge” at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Muhammad Yunus, the chief advisor of the interim government, officially opened the lounge on Monday morning.
He added, “Our migrant workers built our nation.” They contributed significantly to the July and August mass rebellion. We will always be grateful for them.
“We think this lounge will make travelling easier for them.”
According to a press release from the Chief Advisor’s Office, this is the first airport lounge for foreigners in Dhaka. Migrant workers can rest in this space, where they can also enjoy discounted snacks.
The lounge would be set up within the next two weeks, according to a statement made by Expatriate Welfare Advisor Asif Nazrul on October 5.
He had claimed that the lounge would make travelling overseas easier for foreign-born employees.
As an escort, one person will accompany them. Others will escort them at every turn until they board the aircraft. It is our responsibility, not a gesture of kindness,” Nazrul stated.
On Monday, he was also present at the inauguration ceremony. In his speech, he praised the over 10 million foreign workers who left the country and those who sacrificed for it.
IOM, the International Organization for Migration, sponsors the lounge.
“The United Nations has sponsored the lounge to assist migrant workers from Bangladesh,” said Fatima Nusrath Ghazzali, deputy chief of the IOM mission in Bangladesh.
“The honorable chief advisor was the one who took this initiative.” We are pleased to back it up. IOM is also sponsoring around 100 volunteers to assist migrants at the airport.
