Zodiac Power Mirsharai Limited, a subsidiary of Confidence Power Holdings, is constructing Bangladesh’s second-largest private power plant, with a capacity of 660 megawatts.
The project is estimated to cost $550 million and is expected to be completed and operational by June 2027. The project is being executed in partnership with American General Electric, which owns 20% of the project share.
However, concerns about gas supply to the power plant persist, as the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority has committed to gas supply to existing industrial plants.
If an additional gas supply is arranged, the power plant can be fuelled. Confidence Power has the option to generate electricity by importing gas on its own.
Bangladesh currently has a total capacity of 28,134MW of electricity, with private power plants sharing 10,115MW.
