A bomb explosion in Kirkuk in northern Iraq killed at least eight members of the Iraqi federal police, according to security officials. The victims on Sunday were in a convoy when the bomb struck, according to Al Jazeera.
The explosion occurred close to Safra, a community located around 20 miles (30 kilometers) southwest of Kirkuk. Two additional policemen suffered critical injuries.
ISIL (ISIS) fighters are present in the neighborhood, yet no one has claimed responsibility for the incident.
Kirkuk, 238 kilometers from Baghdad, was taken over by Iraqi security forces from Kurdish troops in 2017.
After Iraqi soldiers departed as ISIL (ISIS) grew in power, the Kurdish Regional Government took control of the city.
