In connection with the custodial death of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) leader Nuruzzaman Jonny in January 2015, fifteen police officers have been sued today.
Those implicated include Krishna Pada Roy, the current commissioner of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police and former deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch of the police, and Md Asaduzzaman Miah, Former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner.
On January 20, 2015, a day after his detention in an arson case, Jonny, the general secretary of the pro-BNP JCD Khilgaon Thana section, was allegedly killed in a gunfight with police in Dhaka’s Khilgaon neighborhood.
In accordance with section 15(2) of the 2013 Torture and Custodial Death (Prohibition) Act, the victim’s father, Md. Yakub Ali filed the lawsuit with the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court today.
The complainant’s statement was recorded by Judge Md Asaduzzaman, who also promised to deliver a ruling on the matter later that day.
