Four people have been detained by the Rapid Action Battalion in connection with a case involving the Sunday assault and tongue-cutting of a madrasa teacher in Brahmanbaria’s Akhaura upazila.
The culprits admitted to Rab-9 members that they attacked the madrasa teacher and severed his tongue after the arrests because they did not agree with some of his remarks during a waz mahfil.
At a press conference, RAB-9 Captain and Wing Commander Mominul Haque revealed that several teams of Rab conducted raids at various locations in Chattogram and Brahmanbaria and detained the four.
The detainees are Zakir Hossain Zakku, 48, Mahbubul Alam Shimul, 33, Sumon Mia, 35, and Amirul Islam Rimon, 20.
Shariful Islam Noori, 38, a lecturer at Sreepur Islamia Fazil Madrasa in the Bijoynagar upazila who had just delivered a sermon at Daulatbari Darbar Sharif on Sunday night, was attacked as he was coming from a religious gathering, said RAB.
He was attacked by a group of seven to eight individuals in Akhaura, close to the Ramdhannagar level crossing.
