Cyclone Biparjoy’s average wind speed has dropped to 78 kilometers per hour after making landfall in Gujarat, India, according to state officials there.
More than 180,000 people were evacuated to safety by Pakistan and India on Thursday as a result of the heavy rains, strong winds, and high seas that pounded the Gujarat coast of India.
According to meteorological officials, Biparjoy, which is Bengali for “calamity” or “disaster,” was located 30 kilometers off the coast of Jakhau port in the western Indian state close to the Pakistani border in the Arabian Sea.
Biparjoy was predicted to destroy standing crops, plantations, and public infrastructure. It was classified as a category one storm, the least severe on a scale of one to five.
The weather office has issued a warning that there might be delays in the train network. Al Jazeera stated that the Arabian Sea’s tides could rise as high as two to three meters, inundating low-lying coastal regions.
According to the state government, more than 100,000 residents of Gujarat’s eight coastal districts have been relocated to shelters.
