Australian cricketer David Warner has long expressed his admiration for Indian cinema, especially for Allu Arjun’s work. During the pandemic, Warner often shared videos on social media, recreating Arjun’s famous dialogues and dance moves with his family. Many fans believed that his love for the actor might lead to a collaboration, but Warner’s entry into Telugu cinema is taking a different path.
At an event in Hyderabad on March 3, producer Ravi Shankar of Mythri Movies confirmed Warner’s debut in Telugu cinema. However, instead of starring in an Allu Arjun project, Warner will play an intriguing role in director Venky Kudumula’s upcoming film Robinhood, which stars Nithiin and Sreeleela.
When the anchor hinted at revealing details about the film, Ravi Shankar initially hesitated before smiling and saying, “There’s a special cameo in this film, but I’m not sure if I should reveal it yet.” As lead actor Nithiin encouraged him to spill the secret, Ravi eventually shared, “David Warner has a brief but exciting role in the film. I apologize, Venky, for revealing this without your approval, but they wouldn’t let me off the hook!”
Ravi added, “It’s a proud moment for us to introduce him to Indian cinema, especially through Robinhood.” This announcement followed hints of Warner’s cinematic venture earlier in the year when Australian media leaked behind-the-scenes images from an Indian film set.
In September of the previous year, Warner was seen filming in Melbourne, wearing a crisp white shirt. Reports from 7News described a dramatic scene where Warner exited a helicopter while holding a lollipop, later facing off against a gang of armed men while drawing a golden gun.
At the time, speculations about Warner’s project swirled, with the presence of a South Asian film crew strongly suggesting an Indian production. This followed his collaboration with renowned filmmaker SS Rajamouli for a commercial in April, which further fueled rumors that Warner might appear in Pushpa 2: The Rule, the much-awaited sequel starring Allu Arjun, which was released in December.
