In the 24 hours preceding the outbreak, dengue claimed at least 12 lives in the country, with five of the fatalities occurring in the nation’s capital. In 24 hours, hospitals received at least 2,475 dengue patients.
This year, 1,181 individuals have died from dengue and approximately 2,42,000 have been afflicted, making it the deadliest year since the first reported epidemic in 2000.
Hospitals are finding it difficult to handle the vast number of patients experiencing vomiting, joint pain, and high fever, especially in Dhaka.
Although the government has taken steps to stop the spread of illnesses brought on by mosquitoes, there is no known vaccine or treatment for dengue.
