According to the Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics (BSVS) 2022, which the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) released on Tuesday, the divorce rate in Bangladesh doubled from 2021 to last year. In 2022, the divorce rate per thousand people climbed to 1.4 from 0.7 in 2021.
The percentage of marriage for girls under the age of 15 rose from 4.7 percent in 2021 to 6.5 percent in 2022, and the rate for girls under the age of 18 rose from 32.4 percent to 40.9 percent over the same period.
The data was made public on Tuesday at the BBS building in Agargaon, Dhaka, at the release of the Bangladesh Sample Vital Statistics 2022 report.
