21 Oct 2024, Dhaka, Bangladesh: The Dhaka WASA School Campaign titled “Clean City, Healthy Life” under the Dhaka Sanitation Improvement Project (DSIP) was held on 21 October 2024 at Udayan Higher Secondary School near the DSIP project’s trunk mains. This awareness-building event was organised by Dhaka WASA and supported by Red Orange Media and Communications.
The primary goal of this campaign is to raise awareness among children, parents, and teachers about Dhaka WASA’s role in providing a safe water supply and managing the sewage system in Dhaka and to introduce them to the DSIP project and its benefits.
The campaign began with an announcement during the morning assembly, where the headteacher of the school introduced the Dhaka WASA personnel to the students and teachers.
In the inaugural session, Mr. S M Anwar Satter, Deputy Project Director, DSIP, Dhaka WASA, said as a Chief Guest, “Dhaka WASA is committed to ensuring safe water and waste management for the city dwellers. We have undertaken the DSIP project to improve the waste management system. Very soon, excavation work will begin on various roads in Dhaka city. Roads in front of several schools may also be dug up for the installation of sewage pipelines. So, I apologize in advance to everyone. However, within a few years, you will be able to witness the benefits of this project firsthand.”
Red Orange Communications representatives conducted a session with the students to raise awareness about sanitation and sewerage systems.
Representatives from Dhaka WASA presented the DSIP Project’s goals and benefits to school teachers and management committee members, distributing flyers to further awareness. Educational materials, including coloring books, were given to students in grades 3-5, who participated in reading and coloring activities.
Students from grades 3, 4, and 5 gathered to read and color the DSIP project materials on water conservation, sanitation, and sewerage. Some of them shared their learnings from the day’s activities and committed to discussing them with family and friends, spreading the campaign’s message. More than 250 students participated in this campaign.
Afterward, Dhaka WASA representatives met with the teachers and school management members to discuss the DSIP project in more detail. During this session, the team explained the improvements the DSIP project would bring to Dhaka’s sewage management system, highlighting how these efforts contribute to a healthier and cleaner city for all.
The campaign was presided over by Muhammad Arifur Rahman, Principal (Acting), Udayan Higher Secondary School.
