Following an increase in Israeli military strikes on Palestinian territory, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey called on Israel to “immediately stop this madness” and cease its “attacks” on targets in Gaza on Saturday.
“The Israeli bombardments on Gaza intensified last night and once again targeted women, children, and innocent civilians and worsened the ongoing humanitarian crisis,” Erdogan said on X, which used to be Twitter.
“Israel must immediately stop this madness and end its attacks.”
Since Hamas fighters stormed the border on October 7 and killed 1,400 people, mostly civilians, and abducted 229 prisoners, Israel has been preparing for a ground assault.
As a result of Israeli retaliation assaults on the territory, about 7,300 people have died, including roughly 3,000 children, according to the health ministry in Gaza.
Erdogan also urged a large number of people to attend the Islamo-conservative AKP party’s planned one-million-person demonstration in favor of Palestinians on Saturday in Istanbul.
“We will declare loud and clear that we stand alongside the Palestinian people against Israel’s persecution,” he added.
