Ex-minister Qamrul, former state-minister Palak and 3 others shown arrested in new cases

Former Food Minister Qamrul Islam, ex-State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun, and two others have been formally arrested in separate cases filed at different police stations in Dhaka in connection with events related to the Anti-discrimination Student Movement.

The order was issued by Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman on Wednesday after considering a petition.

Omar Faruq Faruqi, the public prosecutor at the Dhaka Metropolitan Session Judge’s Court, confirmed the decision.

The police brought the suspects, who held influential positions in the ousted Awami League government, to court from jail. Investigation officers then filed petitions to have them shown arrested in separate cases registered at different police stations in Dhaka. Public Prosecutor Faruqi presented the petition while the defense counsels opposed it. After hearing both sides, the court issued the order.

Former IGP Mamun was arrested in a murder case filed with the Vasantek Police Station, while Palak was arrested in a case filed under the Cyber Security Act at the Kafrul Police Station.

Additionally, ex-IGP Mamun was also arrested in another murder case filed with the Jatrabari Police Station.

Qamrul Islam, Abul Hossain, and Nazrul Islam Kabiraj were arrested in a case filed at the Lalbagh Police Station.
