The BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas were today granted permanent bail in a case brought about by the altercation between BNP members and police on December 7 in the Nayapaltan area of the capital.
After holding the last hearing on a petition submitted by Fakhrul and Abbas seeking bail in the case, the HC panel of Justices Md. Salim and Md. Riaz Uddin Khan issued the ruling.
The HC granted them six-month ad interim bail on the same plea on January 3 and issued a rule requesting the state to justify why they should not be given permanent release in the case.
A day after the altercation started in front of the BNP’s Nayapaltan headquarters, on December 8 of last year, the complaint was reported to Paltan Model Police Station.
The day before their Dhaka divisional mass gathering on December 9, Fakhrul and Abbas were taken away from their houses around 3:00 am.
