The prime minister’s statements that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party will lease out St. Martin’s Island if they win power were refuted by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
“The government, not the BNP, has sold the country’s interests. The Prime Minister’s remarks regarding St. Martin are part of a political plan,” the BNP leader claimed on Thursday in the office of the party chairman.
“The BNP came to power in 2001 by giving undertakings to sell gas. The country is now up for sale. Through their promise to sell St. Martin’s, they hope to gain power,” Sheikh Hasina stated on Wednesday.
BNP and the populace will not allow anyone to take even an inch of soil, according to Mirza Fakhrul.
“The government is seeking help from outside the country as they know they will not be able to remain in power,” Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said.
Abdus Salam, the BNP’s Dhaka Metropolitan South Convenor, and other BNP leaders and activists were present at the press conference.
