Farmed fish dyed with harmful chemicals are sold in the market. These dyes make the farmed catfish and horn fish look colorful, shiny, and fresh. Later, these foreign fishes are sold at higher prices as native Beeland river fish. In addition to being cheated, the buyers are also at health risk.
Following the allegations, the National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate raided the fish shops in Fateh Ali Bazar, Bogura. A fish trader was fined as the allegations were confirmed during the operation.
Iftekharul Alam Rizvi, assistant director of the Bogura office, National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, led the operation, which started around 10:30 am on Saturday.
He said that the fined fish trader’s name was Rahim Mondal. He was fined Tk 10 thousand. At the same time, 40 kg of fish with poisonous dyes in his store were released in the KaratoaRiver.
Iftekharul also said that the fish traders of the market had been warned during the operation. The law enforcers were also present at the time. Such campaigns will continue for the public interest.
