Metropolis Report-
Khandokar Azizul Haque Arzu, a former Awami League parliamentarian from Pabna-2, was today detained after a Dhaka tribunal denied him bail in a rape case.
The MP surrendered before the tribunal and asked for bail and Judge Begum Shamsunnahar of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 of Dhaka issued the order.
After acceptance of the case’s investigation report on January 16, the same tribunal issued an arrest warrant for the defendant. The Adabor Police Station officer-in-charge was also ordered by the judge to produce a report on the execution of the arrest warrant by today.
After conducting an investigation, the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) presented the report before the tribunal on January 5. A female apprentice attorney presented the case to the tribunal, raising claims of rape against the former MP on April 19 of last year.
The tribunal then took notes of the complainant’s comments and ordered the PBI to submit a report to it after conducting an investigation.
