Four Bangladeshi-Americans Secure State Senate Seats in Landmark U.S. Elections Victory

In the most recent US elections, four Bangladeshi-Americans have achieved noteworthy victories, joining president-elect Donald Trump.

They are Md. Masudur Rahman, Nabilah Islam, Sheikh Rahman, and Aboul B. Khan.

Despite the fact that no Bangladeshi-American has been elected to a federal office (such as the Senate or Congress), each of them was elected to important state-level positions.

Republican Aboul Khan secured his seventh term as a state representative in New Hampshire. Sheikh Rahman, a Democrat, secured a fourth term as Georgia’s state senator.

Democrats Masudur Rahman and Nabila Islam both won second terms as state senators in Connecticut’s District-4 and Georgia, respectively.

Aboul, a native of Pirojpur, won 67 percent of the Rockingham vote. In Georgia’s 5th Senate district, Sheikh Rahman, whose family is from Kishoreganj, garnered 67.6 percent of the vote.

Masudur, from Chandpur, received 64.8 percent of the vote in Connecticut, while Nabilah, whose family is from Noakhali, received 55 percent in Georgia’s 7th Senate district.

The Bangladeshi-American community, which has observed a rise in voter turnout this election, is excited by their victories.

In reaction to Israel’s actions in Gaza and Lebanon, many foreigners also disclosed that they backed Trump, hoping that a Republican victory would help end the “economic crisis” and bring stability.
