In a joint Gulf Cooperation Council-Russia statement released on Monday, ministers from the Gulf states and Russia emphasized the value of combined efforts to achieve global peace, security, stability, and prosperity.

The announcement followed the sixth joint ministerial session of the GCC-Russia strategic dialogue, which was held in Moscow.

Due to GCC secretary general Jassim Al-Budaiwi, GCC nations are eager to expand their collaboration with Russia in all spheres. According to the statement, all parties emphasized how crucial it is to maintain the stability of the world oil market as well as support the global economy.

The Gulf nations and Russia also commended the OPEC+ nations for their successful efforts in this area and emphasized the necessity for ongoing cooperation between all OPEC+ members to uphold the agreement in a way that benefited the world economy.

According to the secretary-general of the GCC, the oil market has benefited from the OPEC+ group’s cooperation with Russia. As Al-Budaiwi stated the GCC’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict is consistent with accepted UN norms and values.

He continued by saying that the Arab governments of the Gulf support all mediation attempts to settle the dispute as well as the UN policy of not meddling in the internal affairs of other countries.

Sergey Lavrov, the foreign minister of Russia, emphasized that his nation welcomed both Syria’s reinstatement in the Arab League and the warming of relations between Gulf states and Iran.

He said that “Syria’s return to the Arab League has positively affected the region” and that “we have a unified position with the Gulf states towards Syria’s unity and sovereignty over its lands.”

The necessity to resolve the crises in Sudan and Yemen was also emphasized by him. He concluded by saying: “We welcome the efforts of the Gulf states to end the crisis in Yemen and launch a comprehensive national dialogue.”
