General Moin U Ahmed Speaks Out on BDR Mutiny

Regarding the BDR rebellion that occurred in February 2009 at the border security force headquarters in the capital’s Peelkhana, former Army Chief General Moin U Ahmed has spoken out.

He discussed the roles performed by Sheikh Hasina, the Awami League leaders Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Mirza Azam, and Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, as well as the Army during and after the BDR revolt in a video that was uploaded to his YouTube account on Thursday, September 5.

Without waiting for official permission, General Ahmed initiated “Operation Restore Order” during the mutiny to save time. He spoke with Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister at the time, at 9:54 a.m. during the mutiny and was given the go-ahead to continue.

Ahmed said that the situation was made worse by the media’s attention. He added that a RAB team had arrived before 10:00 am but had been denied entry to the BDR headquarters located in Peelkhana.

The administration chose a diplomatic approach over military action, sending negotiators to engage with the rebels who sought amnesty—a demand Ahmed adamantly rejected.

He intends to write a book describing the BDR mutiny and has demanded a comprehensive probe into the affair.
