The Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority’s intention to give its staff performance bonuses was ruled unlawful by the High Court on Thursday.
After hearing a writ case brought by the Consumer Association of Bangladesh (CAB) contesting the legality of Dhaka Wasa’s decision to pay performance bonuses to its employees, the HC panel of Justice Md Mozibur Rahman Miah and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo rendered the ruling.
The petition claims that the Dhaka Wasa board planned to provide its employees performance awards on April 27 last year, which will equal three basic wages.
This corporate practice of giving performance bonuses—which is against the terms of the Dhaka Wasa Act, 1996—was established by the managing director and CEO of Dhaka Wasa.
