The assistant deputy commissioner of Ramna Division, Harun-or-Rashid, was suspended by the government today. On Saturday night, he is accused of assaulting two central Chhatra League leaders inside the Shahbagh Police Station.
This afternoon, the Home Ministry released a circular on the subject.
ADC Harun had already been transferred from the Ramna Division to the public order management division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police as a result of the event.
Later, he was moved to the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
BCL leaders claim that on Saturday at about 9:00 p.m., ADC Harun and other police officers took two BCL leaders to the Shahbagh Police Station, where they allegedly abused them for an hour.
Anwar Hossain Naeem, central organizing secretary and president of the Fazlul Haque Hall unit of Dhaka University (DU), and Sharif Ahmed Munim, central science affairs secretary and general secretary of the Shahidullah Hall unit, among the injured BCL leaders.
The hurt BCL leaders are still getting medical attention at a local hospital.
