Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister, is scheduled to travel to India to witness the swearing-in of Narendra Modi, who will take office for a third term in office.
The Prime Minister’s Office announced on Thursday that Modi had invited Hasina to the ceremony to officially inaugurate his new cabinet.
She is flying out to Delhi on Friday.
In the Lok Sabha elections this year, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured the most seats.
The BJP won 240 seats by itself as a party, while the NDA won 293 seats out of the 543 Lok Sabha as a partnership.
272 seats are needed for a party or coalition to create a government. The BJP and its alliance allies will form a government for a third term in a row, despite the party losing its absolute majority.
On Saturday, Modi will take the oath of office as prime minister.
On Wednesday, Hasina congratulated Modi on winning the poll.
“On behalf of the people of Bangladesh and on my behalf, I wish to extend my heartfelt congratulations to you on the resounding victory of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the 18th Lok Sabha elections,” she stated in her letter.
“You represent India’s people’s dreams and ambitions as the head of the biggest democracy on earth. Your resounding win is evidence of the faith and confidence India’s citizens have in your ability to lead and in your undying devotion to the nation.”
With Modi taking office again, the premier expressed her hope that the two nations’ cordial and amicable relations would endure in every area.
