Metropolis Report-

In the Chittagong Hill Tracts, members of indigenous groups have begun to observe the three-day Biju festival as part of their New Year’s celebration. In various communities, the celebration is referred to as Biju, Bihu, Bishu, Baisu, Sangrai, Sanglan, and Chakran.

The festivals began on Wednesday and will last for the following three days. They will pray at this time for the old year’s pains and hardships to end and for the new year to bring blessings into everyone’s life.

They observe ‘Phul Biju’ on April 12, the ‘Mul Biju’ main event, which takes place on April 13, and ‘Gojyapojya,’ which marks the start of the new year, on April 14. The festival is observed by dressing in traditional attire and hosting a variety of culinary, athletic, and cultural events.

Before dawn, people in Bandarban participated in the celebration of Biju, the festival of Chakmas, and Bishu of Tanchangyas by releasing flowers into the Shankha River. Since the beginning of time, the 11 ethnic minorities in CHT have celebrated Biju, their largest social event.
