In the United States, April 30 is observed as Honesty Day. It promotes openness and truthful communication in politics, interpersonal interactions, business transactions, and historical education.
M. Hirsh Goldberg was the one who came up with the idea, and he picked the last day of April as the date because April Fools’ Day, a day dedicated to honoring lies, falls on the first of the month.
The holiday was established in the early 1990s while M. Hirsh Goldberg was working on the first draft of his book The Book of Lies: Fibs, Tales, Schemes, Scams, Fakes, and Frauds That Have Changed The Course of History and Affect Our Daily Lives and conducting research for it.
Goldberg was an author and a former press secretary for the governor of Maryland. On Honesty Day, people can ask each other questions and anticipate receiving radically honest responses, given that they are all aware of the holiday.
Honest Abe Awards are presented by Goldberg himself on April 30 to deserving businesses, groups, and people.
The Sunday before Christmas in December is National Honesty Day in Italy, according to The Christian Post. The event in Italy serves as a day to protest against commercial exploitation and manipulation, as well as broken promises, similar to the aim of Honesty Day in the United States.
