On Wednesday, as an accountability court in Islamabad gave NAB custody of the protest movement’s leader Imran Khan for eight days in connection with the Al Qadir Trust case, at least eight people died, up to 290 were hurt, and over 1,900 enraged protesters were apprehended in ongoing clashes with law enforcement officials across the nation.
On Wednesday, as the brutal protests sparked by the PTI chairman’s detention began their second day, multiple government facilities, including police stations, were damaged as a result of fights between police and PTI supporters.
Hours after central Secretary General Asad Umar was brought into detention, PTI Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry was detained late at night.
In Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Islamabad, the administration dispatched the military in an effort to manage the deteriorating situation. A day after demonstrators broke into the corps commander’s Lahore home and tore down a gate at GHQ in Rawalpindi, the deployment took place.
After the attacks on army property, the media wing of the army issued a strong statement, criticizing a political party for its “limited and selfish” exploitation of the public and its “hypocrisy” in the process.
However, the mob set fire to a police station in Lahore, a police office in Islamabad, Radio Pakistan’s facility in Peshawar, and Scouts Fort in Chakkdara, Lower Dir.
