Today marked the start of the four-day International Plastic Fair (IPF) in Dhaka, which aims to expand the markets for goods manufactured of local plastic. The expo was officially opened by Industry Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun.
The show was co-hosted by Yorker Trade and Marketing Service Co Ltd and the Bangladesh Plastic Goods Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BPGMEA) at the International Convention Center Bashundhara in Dhaka.
The expo has been outfitted with over 700 stalls representing 494 businesses. In addition to the USA, China, India, Canada, France, Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Austria, and Singapore, there were exhibitors from 21 other nations at the exhibition.
BPGMEA President Shamim Ahmed stated during the opening ceremony that this exhibition will aid in boosting exports, market size, and investment in the plastics industry.
Yet, he claimed that one of the sector’s main issues is the dependence of the nation’s plastic industry on imports of raw materials totaling 2 million tonnes. Ahmed also asked the government for policy support to help this industry grow.
