Iran Cites Weather as Cause of Helicopter Crash Involving President Raisi

As reported by the commission looking into the issue yesterday, the cause of the May helicopter crash that killed Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi was determined to be unfavorable weather.

Seven people were killed and immediate elections were called when the chopper carrying the 63-year-old Raisi and his group crashed on a foggy hillside in northern Iran.

The official broadcaster IRIB reported that the special board looking into the causes and extent of the helicopter accident stated that the “complex climatic and atmospheric conditions of the region in the spring” were the primary cause of the accident.

“The sudden emergence of a thick mass of dense and rising fog” was the reason for the helicopter’s crash with the mountain, the report continued.
