Is Elon Musk Really Coming to Bangladesh?

Elon Musk, the billionaire businessman and CEO of SpaceX and Tesla Motors, has been rumored to visit Bangladesh in April 2025 as part of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority’s (BIDA) upcoming international investment conference in Dhaka.

But is it unfounded or merely conjecture?

The recent visit of a representative from one of Musk’s companies to Bangladesh and reports citing anonymous sources have fueled rumors of Musk’s visit on Bangladeshi social media and in the media. Both the Bangladeshi government and Musk’s team have not, however, offered any formal confirmation.

There is some significance to Elon Musk’s potential visit to Bangladesh because it will draw in foreign investment and advance Starlink, SpaceX’s satellite internet service there. Frequently, Musk’s international trips coincide with the formal introduction of Starlink in those nations.
Additionally, some people think that Musk may travel to India soon and then Bangladesh at the same time because Starlink is in the process of obtaining regulatory approval to operate in India.

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) recently put out a draft of rules called “Regulatory and Licensing Guidelines for Non-Geostationary Orbit (NGSO) Satellite Services Operators in Bangladesh.” This has led to more rumors. The 65-page report describes the procedures for international satellite internet service providers, such as Starlink, to acquire an operational license in Bangladesh.

An official from BIDA responded to a question regarding a Musk visit to Bangladesh by saying, “It is not confirmed that Elon Musk will visit Bangladesh anytime soon. However, if everything goes as planned, we plan to invite Elon Musk to the next international investment conference. After sending the invitation, there is still time to discuss whether or not he will attend.

Although Musk’s visit to Bangladesh is still purely hypothetical, the increased interest in the country as a potential hub for tech investment is reflected in the rumors circulating about it.
