Israel’s ambulance service and military said that Palestinian militants opened fire on a prominent thoroughfare in the occupied West Bank on Sunday, killing one Israeli and wounding another. Hamas’ armed wing claimed credit for the attacks.
The Israeli military declared that it was searching, shutting roads, and pursuing the alleged attackers.
The West Bank-based gunmen of Hamas’ Al-Qassam Brigades claimed later in the day that they had “returned to their bases safely” after killing an Israeli soldier at close range close to the Jordan Valley settlement of Mehola.
According to the civil defense service, at least ninety persons were killed in Israel’s hit on a school in Gaza City where displaced Palestinians were seeking shelter on Saturday. This prompted the operation.
The Israeli military claimed to have killed 19 militants in this attack by hitting a command station used by Islamic Jihad and Hamas. The Israeli military statement was denounced by Islamic organizations and Hamas.
Prior to the Gaza conflict, there had been an increase in violence in the West Bank; since, there has been a sharp rise in Israeli military raids, settler violence, and Palestinian street attacks.
