Israeli Strikes Kill 16 in Gaza on Wednesday

Gaza’s civil defense agency confirmed that 16 individuals were killed in Israeli airstrikes across the besieged Palestinian territory on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. The attacks intensified as Israel continued its military operations aimed at dismantling Hamas.

Among the victims, nine were members of the family of photojournalist Osama Al-Arbeed, who died in a strike on their home in northern Gaza at 2:00 a.m. Al-Arbeed, a videographer and editor at a local film production organization, was injured in the attack. Additionally, six other family members were killed in central Gaza during a separate strike that also left 15 people wounded, including children. A civilian was also reported dead near Khan Yunis in southern Gaza.

The Israeli military declined to comment on the specific strikes, citing the need for precise coordinates. Israel has intensified its offensive in Gaza this month, aiming for the “defeat of Hamas,” more than 18 months after the group’s October 2023 attack on Israel triggered the war. That attack resulted in the deaths of 1,218 people, mostly civilians, and the abduction of 251 hostages, 57 of whom remain in Gaza, including 34 who the Israeli military says are dead.

The health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza reported on Monday that at least 3,822 people had been killed in the territory since Israel ended a ceasefire on March 18, bringing the war’s overall toll to 53,977, mostly civilians.
