Medics reported that Israeli military strikes throughout the Gaza Strip overnight killed at least 65 Palestinians, including at a school housing displaced families, as Israeli tanks moved into parts of Khan Younis, in the southern part of the enclave.
An Israeli tank raid that covered multiple locations in Khan Younis, located in the southern Gaza Strip, resulted in at least 40 deaths and numerous injuries. These events were reported by the official Voice of Palestine radio station and Hamas media. The Israeli tanks then made a partial retreat.
The medics reported that at least 22 Palestinians had died in Gaza City. Israeli strikes in two different locations—one in Gaza City, which killed 17 people at a school housing displaced families, and another at the Al-Amal Orphan Society, which killed at least five more—also resulted in the deaths of displaced people.
An Israeli attack on a school in Nuseirat, central Gaza, which was offering refuge to Palestinian displaced families, resulted in 15 injuries and three fatalities later on Wednesday. According to the Israeli military, the attack was directed at Hamas militants operating from a command center buried within the grounds where the “Nuseirat Girls’ School” once stood.
It claimed that Hamas was using civilian infrastructure and people for military gain, which the organization denies.
Israel promised a “painful response” to its enemy, Iran, after Tehran launched a barrage of ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday in retaliation for Israel’s campaign against Iran’s Hezbollah allies in Lebanon.
After almost a year-long conflict with Israel, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip rejoiced as they observed numerous rockets travelling towards Israel. Despite Israel’s Iron Dome missile defenses intercepting some of those rockets, witnesses claimed they still fell into the Palestinian enclave without killing anyone.
Hezbollah started launching rockets into Israel approximately a year ago to aid its ally Hamas in the conflict in Gaza, which broke out after the terrorist organization carried out the deadliest attack on Israel’s history on October 7.
The attack, which Israel claims resulted in 1,200 deaths and over 250 hostages, ignited the war that has ravaged Gaza, uprooting the majority of its 2.3 million inhabitants and killing over 41,600 people, according to Gaza health authorities.
