The foreign minister of Japan announced on Thursday that she would visit Israel and Jordan with her colleagues from Palestine and convey Japan’s willingness to support them.
Yoko Kamikawa, the minister, will also be meeting with Eli Cohen, the foreign minister of Israel, during her two-day visit starting on Friday. This comes as the crisis in Gaza escalated following Israel’s attack on the Jabalia refugee camp and as tourists, including Japanese nationals, began to depart.
Regarding her meeting with her Palestinian colleagues, Kamikawa stated, “I hope to discuss how to respond to the grave humanitarian situation in the Gaza region as well as directly communicate Japan’s readiness to continue providing aid.”
She did not say who on the Palestinian side she would meet.
She confirmed that numerous civilians had been murdered in the Israeli bombardment of the Jabalia refugee camp in an interview with reporters before her departure.
“I understand the Israeli military has said the strike targeted Hamas operatives and relevant infrastructure,” she continued. She stopped talking after that.
According to Kamikawa, all ten Japanese nationals and their eight Palestinian family members who wished to leave Gaza have fled to Egypt. The evacuees are stated to be in good health.
She declared that Japan would stay in contact with the one Japanese national who chose to stay in Gaza and did not flee.
