Kamal ‘Confesses’ to Primeasia Student Parvez Murder Charges Despite No Formal Accusation

Md Al Kamal Sheikh, who was arrested in connection with the murder of Primeasia University student Zahidul Islam Parvez, has reportedly confessed to the crime in court.

The 19-year-old, who is not a student of the university, made the confession while on remand. He was presented before a Dhaka court by Banani Police Inspector AKM Moin Uddin on Wednesday, where Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Minhazur Rahman recorded his statement and ordered that he be sent to jail.

Sub-Inspector Moktar Hossain from Banani Police Station confirmed the development.

Kamal, along with two other individuals—Alvi Hossain Junayed, 19, and Al Amin Sani, 19—was arrested by Banani police on Sunday midnight, a day after Parvez’s murder. Neither of the three is a student at Primeasia University, and their names are not included in the chargesheet.

The court had granted a seven-day remand for the trio for further interrogation. Later that night, the fifth suspect, Hridoy Miyazi, was arrested from his uncle’s house in Titas, Cumilla. On Wednesday, the first accused, Meheraz Islam, was arrested in Gaibandha, while the third accused, Mahathir Hasan, was detained in Chattogram. A total of six suspects have now been arrested in relation to the case.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon when Parvez, a student in the Textile Engineering Department, was fatally stabbed in a dispute on the Primeasia University campus in Banani.

Following the attack, Parvez’s cousin filed a case naming eight individuals, including two leaders from the Anti-discrimination Student Movement, along with 25 to 30 unnamed individuals as additional suspects.
