Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Imran Ahmed urged the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to recruit Bangladeshi workers in increasing number as the Gulf country is set to post robust growth this after successfully containing the corona pandemic.
Imran Ahmed said this at a reception marking the 51st National Day of the UAE at the La Meridian Hotel on Thursday.
Bangladesh exported a total of 89,108 workers to the UAE during the January-October period of the current calendar year.
Bangladesh’s export to UAE has recovered this year as country’s exports of manpower to the UAE have suffered since 2012.
During 1976-2021 period, Bangladesh exported 2,401,829 workers to the Gulf country, sharing 17.62 per cent of the total manpower export.
Imran Ahmed said, “Bangladesh and UAE enjoy the age-old fraternity and time-tested friendship. These historical ties had further been strengthened and deepened over time with religious, and cultural commonalities and economic cooperation.”

“Higher oil receipts, supplemented with a gradual non-oil recovery in the Emirates will bolster fiscal revenue resulting in a fiscal surplus to hover around 4.4 percent of GDP in 2022,” the bank said in its new Gulf Economic Update (GEU),said the World Bank.
The World Bank, however, expected the country’s real GDP to moderate to 4.1 percent in 2023 as slower global demand may dampen growth due to tightening financial conditions.
“Recent bilateral free trade agreements with Asian partners supported by strong oil exports will place the UAE’s current account surplus at 11.2 percent of GDP in 2022,” the bank report said.
The bank has also hailed the UAE’s ‘favourable business environment and world-class infrastructure’ for the buoyancy in its economy.
According to the GEU, the economies of the GCC are projected to expand by 6.9 percent in 2022, before moderating to 3.7 percent and 2.4 percent in 2023 and 2024.

On this historic occasion, Abdulla Ali AlHmoudi said “UAE and Bangladesh enjoy deep-rooted historical relations since 1971 and both of our governments strengthened the bilateral relations in various sectors.”
He also said that “The ties between the UAE and Bangladesh are based on the principles of cooperation and mutual respect and the partnership between the two countries and peoples that have reached a new height in recent years. The mutual visits of the leaders and officials of the two countries, and the ever-increasing levels of trade, economic and cultural exchange, are a powerful indicator that stands witness to the strength of bilateral relations in various fields.”

The UAE believes that the world cannot tolerate more polarization and confrontation, and that the coming decades need more communication, integration and cooperation in the political, economic, technological, health and food fields,”

“Every year on 2nd of December, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) celebrates its anniversary of the unification of the seven Emirates in 1971 and today marks the 51st anniversary of the announcement of the Union and the establishment of the country,” he said.
The UAE, under the leadership of Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan continues the path of national development and economic growth as an extension of the legacy of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the future model of the UAE.
“The progress, development and prosperity that we enjoy nowadays in the UAE goes hand in hand with a balanced foreign policy that allows our country to gain greater respect in its diplomatic presence and further boost its friendly relations around the world,” the UAE diplomat said.
The UAE adopts economic strategies that stimulate economic diversification and the UAE has also launched a package of strategic projects and initiatives within the “Projects of the 50”, which aim to establish an advanced stage of internal and external growth. The projects provide impetus for investment in digital and circular economies, as well as sectors based on artificial intelligence and the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The UAE’s foreign policy focuses on supporting long-term economic prosperity, and the state adopts strategies that stimulate economic diversification, away from oil.
The UAE’s relations with all countries are characterized by continuity, moderation, diplomacy and wisdom, despite the changes on the global political, security, economic and health scene, and this is harnessed to find common ground to find solutions to regional and international challenges and conflicts.
The UAE diplomat also said that the UAE supports diplomacy over conflict, partnership over unilateralism, and dialogue over confrontation. It urges respect for the principles of good neighborliness and non-interference in the internal affairs of countries, while seeking to develop existing alliances and strengthen foreign relations to support its domestic development and international engagement.
The Gulf diplomat also said that the UAE believes in cultural diplomacy that builds bridges of understanding between nations to increase cooperation. After a half-century of achievements, we can see the impact of international cultural partnerships on the global interest in the UAE. There has been an increasing appreciation worldwide of our nation’s future agenda and fundamental values, thanks to initiatives such as EXPO 2020 Dubai, the Louvre Abu Dhabi, the Abraham Accords, and the UAE Papal visit, amongst many others.
