Mexican Security Forces Kill 11 Gunmen in Violent Shootout

According to authorities, Wednesday’s gunfight in the northeast of Mexico resulted in the deaths of 11 gunmen, making it the most recent in a string of gunfights involving cartels.

In a statement, the state government of Nuevo Leon announced the arrest of an armed suspect and the seizure of vehicles and weapons.

The attack on a command post resulted in no reported security force casualties, but it did initiate a manhunt by air and land.

The statement claims that a gunfight broke out in the municipality of Los Ramones as security officers pursued gunmen who were driving a convoy of about eight pickup trucks.

“The result was 11 criminals killed,” it read.

According to the report, the arrested suspect was spotted on a highway with tactical gear, a gun, and clothing disguised as one would wear.

Mexico has seen a lot of confrontations between suspected cartel members and security personnel.

More than 450,000 murders have occurred in the Latin American nation since 2006 as a result of spiraling criminal violence, much of which is associated with gangs and drug trafficking.

Numerous people have died this month as a result of cartel infighting in the northwest state of Sinaloa, which is home to one of the nation’s most potent and violent drug gangs.

Internal strife is believed to have erupted following the unexpected arrest of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, the co-founder of the Sinaloa Cartel, on US soil in late July.

A “hugs not bullets” approach to addressing violent crime at its source by addressing poverty and inequality through social programs is what outgoing President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who steps down from office next week, has championed.
