Metropolis Report-
Since this morning, motorcycles have been running over the Padma Bridge. The service lane of the bridge was first used by motorcycles at 6:00 am. The strain of bikers since the morning has resulted in tolls being collected through the first two lanes even though just one toll station was designated for motorbikes, according to sources.
The motorcycle riders are thrilled to be able to cross the bridge after over nine months. Motorcycle riders had only one day to cross the bridge before today.
On the 6.15-kilometer bridge, they must adhere to the 60 km/h speed limit and use a dedicated lane and toll booth. According to a BBA circular, they won’t be permitted to overtake or change lanes. Helmets are just one piece of required safety equipment for riders and pillion passengers.
A maximum of two persons would be allowed on a bike, and they wouldn’t be able to stop on the bridge to take pictures. A day after the nation’s longest bridge was inaugurated, BBA outlawed motorcycles on the Padma Bridge last year.
