Today in New Delhi, there was a press conference where the 69th National Film Awards were revealed. RRR was heavily featured in the winners’ list, which had a heavy concentration of Hindi films. The Best Actress prize is shared by Alia Bhatt and Kriti Sanon for their roles in Gangubai Kathiawadi and Mimi. For the box office success of Pushpa: The Rise, Allu Arjun received the Best Actor award. All three actors have received their first National Award. Rocketry: The Nambi Effect received the Best Film award. Pallavi Joshi received Best Supporting Actress for her work in The Kashmir Files, which also won Best Film on National Integration, and Pankaj Tripathi won Best Supporting Actor for his part in Kriti Sanon’s Mimi. Pallavi Joshi and Pankaj Tripathi have both previously received special accolades.
RRR received numerous honors, including Best Popular Film. Kaala Bhairava won Best Male Playback Singer for Naatu Naatu, and Shreya Ghoshal took home Best Female Playback Singer honors. It was nominated for Best Music. Both Gangubai Kathiawadi and Sardar Udham, which were awarded Best Hindi Film, took home numerous prizes. Among other distinctions, Gangubai Kathiawadi won Best Screenplay. Shershaah won a Special Jury prize.
Ketan Mehta, the jury’s chair, announced the winners for the best feature film category.
It will be announced later who will get India’s highest film honor, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
At a ceremony later in the year, President Droupadi Murmu will present the National Awards. Suriya and Ajay Devgn, who shared the Best Actor award last year for their performances in Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior and Soorarai Pottru, were among the winners. Co-star Aparna Balamurali of Suriya.
