President M Abdul Hamid received credentials from the new ambassador of China to Bangladesh Yao Wen at Bangabhaban in Dhaka on Monday evening.
Welcoming the new ambassador, the President said China is the largest bilateral development partner of Bangladesh and an important country for its trade and investment.
President’s Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS that Abdul Hamid highlighted China’s cooperation in the socio-economic development of Bangladesh including the implementation of various mega projects.
Bilateral ties between Bangladesh and China will be strengthened with the increased trade and investment in days to come, the head of the state hoped.
President Hamid thanked the Chinese government for its support in dealing with Covid-19 pandemic.
China would play a strong role in ensuring safe and dignified repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingyas to their motherland in Maynmar, Hamid expected.
During the meeting, the new Chinese ambassador sought the cooperation of the President in fulfilling his duties.
Earlier, he was given a Guard of Honour by a smart contingent of the President Guard Regiment (PGR) on his arrival at Bangabhaban.
Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, President’s Office Secretary Sampad Barua, Military Secretary Major General SM Salahuddin Islam, Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin and Secretary (attached) Md Wahidul Islam Khan were present.
