All passengers traveling on intercity trains in Bangladesh must possess valid identification, such as a national identity card (NID), from March 1.
At a news conference held on Wednesday at Railway Bhaban in the capital, Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan made this announcement.
To purchase intercity train tickets, a customer must have a copy of their national identification (NID) card, birth certificate, or passport on hand.
The decision was made in an effort to stop black ticket marketing and to punish people who travel without tickets, according to the railways minister.
In addition to establishing the Point of Cell (POC) machine to check tickets and enabling the return of online tickets, he claimed Bangladesh Railway had integrated three services into the ticketing system.
A help desk will also be set up at important stations starting the following week to ease the transition.
