This year, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has opted not to hold any iftar gatherings at her official residence, Ganabhaban.
According to the deputy press secretary for the prime minister, as part of the government’s austerity measures in light of dimming global development prospects, the prime minister herself will refrain from having lavish iftars.
Every Ramadan, the prime minister hosts separate iftar gatherings at Ganabhaban for people from all walks of life, including orphans, freedom fighters, dignitaries, and politicians.
