As a priority nation, Norway has expressed interest in funding Bangladesh’s renewable energy industry through its Climate Investment Fund.

During a discussion on the sidelines of Oslo Forum 2023 on Tuesday in Oslo, Norwegian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Erling Rimestad expressed the interest of his nation to his Bangladeshi colleague, Md Shahriar Alam.

The Rohingya Crisis, Climate Change, and Trade and Investment Cooperation were among the other bilateral and regional topics of mutual interest that were covered, according to the foreign ministry.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md. Shahriar Alam commended Norway for its fifty years of development assistance to Bangladesh and for investing through Norfund, particularly in the country’s financial sector.

Additionally, he was grateful for Norway’s political backing of the Rohingyas’ safe, sustainable, and voluntary return home as well as its humanitarian help to those who were temporarily housed in Bangladesh.

Before praising Bangladesh’s quick socioeconomic progress, the Norwegian state secretary emphasized the significance of women’s empowerment and gender equality. The Bay of Bengal deep-sea fishing industry was also a topic of discussion between the two parties regarding potential cooperation.
