Metropolis Desk-
The price of onions has increased by Tk 10 per kilogram at the capital’s kitchen markets in the last three days, even though it is the height of harvest season.
Yesterday, onions were sold for Tk 90-100 per kg by retailers at Dhaka’s Karwan Bazar and Shewrapara kitchen markets, up from Tk 80-90 three days prior.
In an attempt to reduce exports, boost domestic availability, and control prices through December 31, India set a minimum export price of $800 per tonne for onions on October 28 of last year. This price was significantly higher than what importers were paying.
For the same reason, on December 8, the nation prolonged the export ban on onions through March 31.
